Maximising training opportunities during COVID-19

20 Nov 2020

The JCST, with ASiT, BOTA and CoPSS have put together a paper on how to make the most of every training opportunity as we continue to live with restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

The effects of the virus on surgical training will have lasting repercussions if we don’t take action now to maximise training opportunities.

Since the first wave of COVID-19, trainees have reported significant reductions in operative experience. Our survey, protecting surgery through a second wave, published in October found that 67% of surgeons indicated that a lack of elective activity meant that there were fewer opportunities for training.

The joint paper published by JCST highlights areas where training opportunities could be maximised by national bodies, trainers and trainees themselves.
