Professor Patrick Magennis elected as Vice Dean at June's Board meeting

Congratulations to Professor Patrick Magennis who was elected Junior Vice Dean of the Faculty at today’s FDS Board meeting. He will take up office on 17 October.
We also congratulate Professor Sondos Albadri who becomes Senior Vice Dean. Thank you to the demitting Vice Dean, Andrew DiBiase, who will be at the end of his tenure as a Vice Dean later this year.
Professor Patrick Magennis, who has served on the FDS Board since 2019, commented "I am very honoured to receive the support of the Faculty of Dental Surgery Board in my election as the Junior Vice Dean. The activity of the Board, Dean Charlotte Eckhardt, and Senior Vice Dean Sondos Albadri, in supporting our members and fellows increases year on year. I look forward to contributing to this work."

Patrick Magennis is a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) who works in the Regional OMFS Unit at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool. Originally from Belfast, he has been training and working in Liverpool for 30 years. He qualified in dentistry in Belfast in 1984 and passed his FFD RCS (Ire), FDS RCPS (Glasgow) and FDS RCS (Edinburgh) whilst a Senior House Officer in Chester with John Cawood. After completing his MB BCh BAO (Queen’s Belfast), he passed his FRCS CSiG whilst a registrar in The London Hospital and moved to complete his OMFS training in Liverpool. His first OMFS consultant post was in Burton-on-Trent/Derby starting in 2001. He moved back to Liverpool in 2003 where he leads Trauma in what GIRFT agrees is the busiest OMFS unit in England. After receiving FDS RCS England ad eundum in 2019 he was elected to the FDS Board. His other roles include Trustee of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (he will be BAOMS President July 2025-July 2026), President of the OMFS Section of the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS), and Deputy Chair of Trustees of Saving Faces (Facial Surgery Research Foundation). Patrick’s focus has always been supporting trainees, especially trainees in OMFS. He has published over 100 peer review papers, mostly on topics related to OMFS training.
