RCS England members and fellows recognised in King’s New Year Honours

The King has recognised a number of members and fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the 2026 New Year Honours. They include previous Council member Professor Scarlett McNally, who has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to medicine, surgery and the NHS. 

Professor Scarlett McNally is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who served as Deputy Director at the Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) and was a member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 2011 to 2021. She is currently President of the Medical Women’s Federation and has been a strong advocate for women in surgery, championing initiatives to improve diversity and support female surgeons throughout her career. 

Mr Tim Mitchell, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said: 

“Everyone at the College is immensely proud of Scarlett McNally’s achievement and deeply appreciative of her outstanding contributions, which have been recognised in the King’s Honours list.  

“Alongside Scarlett, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all other members and fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of England who have been honoured this year.  

“Their dedication and tireless service exemplify the very best of our profession and highlight the remarkable commitment of healthcare professionals across the country. It is uplifting to see the extraordinary efforts of our colleagues celebrated at such a prestigious level.”

Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) 

Dr Suzy Lishman. Hunterian Museum Trustee. For services to the Medical Examiner System and to Patient Safety. 

Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) 

Mr Lorenzo Garagnani. For services to Children with Hand and Upper Limb Differences 

Professor Scarlett McNally.  For services to Medicine, Surgery and the NHS 

Professor Michael Nicholson. For services to Kidney Transplantation 

Professor Tara Renton. For services to Dentistry 

Mr Graham Watson. For services to the development of Endo-Urological Science and to the training of Endo-Urology Overseas. 

Promotions in and appointments to the military division of the most excellent order of the British Empire
